A mountain bike or a MTB as it is called is a bicycle designed for off road cycling that is traversing the rocks, steep declines, logging roads and unpaved environment. These bicycles used for a sport called mountain biking with its inception in 1970’s in the state of California USA. The mountain bike then was a heave cruiser bicycle used for trailing the mountains. The first mass production of these bikes started in the year 1981 and with this the sport became a mainstream activity.
A Mt Bike can be classified into four major categories with the first one being Fully Rigid with no suspension, hard tail with no rear suspension, soft tail with a small amount of suspension. The fourth category is dual or full suspension with a front suspension fork and rear suspension. Although it is a tedious task to find the right bike but there are a few important things to be kept in mind while choosing a bike.
The first thing to consider is riding type that one wants to go in for. There are bikes suiting to your needs like riding the paved trails, rough cross country biking or traversing the steep declines. The next step is to consider the amount of suspension you would like. Most bikers prefer hard tail bikes with fixed rear suspension and less maintenance. After this perfect examination of the bike components is a mandatory. The components to look for in a Mountain Bike are forks derailleurs, brakes and wheels. The final thing to be considered is the budget. It is not only the purchasing cost but maintenance cost is also to be considered. The high end bikes cost more but come with low maintenance and hence are preferable.
